![]() ![]() Gilcrest History Gilcrest Farms beginnings
From a dairying background, an initial holding was purchased near the Hawkesbury River in New South Wales in the 1970's. Although the family still owns that holding it has been managed seperately since they moved to South Australia in the late 1980's and purchased a property, Lindesforn, at Yankalilla on the Fleurieu Pensinsular .
Lindesforn was initially stocked with a commercial herd Murray Grey cattle until the larger Leura Hills property was purchased when the Murray Greys were moved to it. At the same time a commercial herd of Hereford cattle was purchased in the 'South East' to complete the stocking of the Leura Hills property.
Holdings New South Wales Lindesforn
After the purchase of the Leura Hills, an existing piggery on the property was also reopened and operated for a number of years. It was finally closed in the late 1990's to concentrate on breeding hybrid cattle.
Recently self shedding sheep have been added to the stock on Lindesforn. Primarily as a further non chemical measure to control weeds and improve the pasture, However the selected breed are also a value product being particularly good high quality and value meat animals.
